Ian Thompson
Ian joined the Glenabbey eldership team in March 2023, having been part of church life and served in both the Music and Youth teams. During a period of leadership development in 2022, he began to think and pray more seriously about eldership and came to see it as a way in which God was calling him to serve the church.
As an elder, Ian particularly enjoys the opportunity to serve and support the people and ministries of Glenabbey. He currently acts as elder liaison for Youth, Music and Production, working alongside the staff and volunteers who lead those ministries, and also provides additional support in areas including finance, facilities and safeguarding. He has a particular interest in growing in his understanding of how Scripture speaks into the challenges of everyday life, and has spent time studying and developing his understanding of how best to care for and support people pastorally.
Outside of Glenabbey, Ian runs his own structural engineering consultancy and enjoys music and cycling. He lives in Whiteabbey with his wife Katrina, to whom he has been married for more than 30 years, and they have a daughter, Dara.
