This Week’s Memory Verse
You are the children that God dearly loves. So, follow his example. Lead a life of love, just as Christ did. He loved us. He gave himself up for us.
Ephesians 5:1-2a (NIRV)
This verse will help to give context for the morning’s Bible passage.
After learning the memory verse together consider the following questions:
Who does this verse say we are?
Who can we copy if we want to follow God’s example?
3. What did Christ (Jesus) do for us?
4. Why did he do it?
This Week’s Prayer
Spend some time thanking God for who he is; for his love for us; for sending Jesus as our example; for giving himself up for us so that we could become his dearly loved children.
This Week’s Kids Song Suggestions
(No need to do them all unless you have a very enthusiastic group!)
Jesus, love is very wonderful

This Week’s Bible Reading
Ephesians 6:1-9
1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.2 “Honour your father
and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3 “so that it may
go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”
4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training
and instruction of the Lord.
5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of
heart, just as you would obey Christ. 6 Obey them not only to win their favour
when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your
heart. 7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, 8 because you
know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they
are slave or free. 9 And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since
you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no
favouritism with him.
Questions to consider in smaller (mixed age) groups
1. In verse 1, what are children told to do?
2. In verse 4, what are fathers told to do?
Prayer
Take a moment to ask for the Spirit’s help to obey God and follow Jesus’ example, in our homes.
Questions continued…
3. In verse 5 what are slaves told to do?
4. Read verse 6 and 7: Why should we not only work hard when our teachers or bosses are watching?
5. Read verse 7 again: a) What do you think the word, ‘wholeheartedly’ means? b) What do you think it might look like to do your work wholeheartedly tomorrow?
6. Read verse 9: Do you think that God likes teachers and bosses better than pupils and employees? Why/ why not?
Prayer
Take a moment to ask for the Spirit’s help to obey God and follow Jesus’ example in our schools and places of work.
